The shop used to be really good, but at the moment you feel like you are getting warmed up food. And you should clean a little more :) Have been here once every two weeks for 4 years now and would like to keep this tradition alive.
Very tasty food, good price, service too Ambience, as has already been written, has its own charm, but it is worth eating out here
Food was bland, not authentic flavour and prices were high.
Absolute ANTI recommendation! The majority of the good reviews here I can really understand zero. I am usually not a supercritical person at restaurants, but I expect friendliness, good food and hygiene and none of that was given at Bengal Tandoori. I have rarely been so disappointed after visiting a restaurant and so angry that I have mis-invested my money. I usually never give Google reviews, but I really want to warn others to eat here and risk their health. From the front to (not just the proverbial) back really nothing was right during our visit to Bengal Tandoori. At the beginning we were welcomed quite friendly and everything seemed to be clean and nice - but we doubted the hygiene more and more in the course of the evening. Even before we ordered we heard a slimy cough from the back room. After we selected our food, it really started. We wanted to order several small dishes, whereupon the waitress told us really unfriendly (!) That this would not work and we had to choose other dishes. No friendly explanation, nothing. Since she was apparently also the cook, she went into the kitchen. After a while she came back, sat at one of the tables and stared at us all the time! (And no, we are not freaks, just normal mother and daughter!) Whenever I looked she pretended not to look and look away - really, very rude and strange in my eyes. Then the cough started again and it came - from her! She really seemed very sick, which didn't make us feel good. Then we saw a food moth flying around in the room. At that point I was already considering leaving. If only I had done it. The starter came. Fried dough balls with various sauces served in a silver stand with small bowls. The waiter informed us that he regretted that one sauce was already empty, which in itself would not have been a problem. But then, when we removed the bowl cover, we saw remnants of the sauces sticking all over the place - it appears that we were already served with bowls of sauce that were already in use, which is probably good for the ecological balance, but we found it really gross. Then the food came and it was not bad (but not really good either), but our two different dishes tasted almost the same. At this point, especially due to the experience with the starter and the coughing employee, we had already lost our appetite. Already in the evening and the next day, our fears of poor hygiene on the toilet came true. I spare details here, but we both had stomach cramps and no normal digestion. Really, never, never again will I set foot in this place. EDIT: @San Guyver: We did not spend more than three hours in your restaurant, did not tip 4 euros and did not have the dishes you mentioned, so confuse us. This is not a "Hatespeech", but an honest criticism from our perspective and a warning to other possible visitors, because unfortunately we have had no experiences in your restaurant that suggest that necessary hygiene and courtesy standards are observed. You can see that I have hardly written any reviews otherwise. Only your restaurant made me do it. I don't like to damage your reputation, on the contrary; I have empathy for you personally. But unfortunately I honestly don't think that visiting your restaurant will be a good experience.
Very tasty and very different to usual Indian food. The staff is also very lovely
Bangladeshi restaurant in the Mainz city. You can get Bangladeshi food here and here's a little high price.
Tasty food with nice portion size. Not too much and not too little. Inside it's a mix of classic german restaurants (with a bit of living room / dining room atmosphere) and lots of photos from Bangladesh and indian style pictures.
Food was pathetic. It seemed they need to hire a cook. Service was pathetic. 35 mins to serve awful pathetic.
@Nina M. Since they allegedly felt so uncomfortable, I do not understand why they spent over 3 hours in the restaurant and left 4 euros tip. We were polite. I do not know what they think is politeness. You can not put food together with us, but order according to the menu card. Their alleged different dishes were not different. They both had Jalfrezi. The difference was that one dish was lamb and the other beef. No wonder the curry sauce tasted the same. The fact that they have allegedly seen a food moth is unavoidable, since a restaurant smells of food and attracts flies and makes its way through the door or window. Our toilets are cleaned every day, just before the opening. Sorry if it does not live up to your expectations, as you are used to in person. And that they feel disturbed by coughing or alleged observations when they look at a human, we can not do anything. Please post a constructive review next time, if something bothers you, instead of posting a hate speech! We are critic and capable of learning! What they wrote was already damaging to reputation and not true to the truth. P.S. This waitress was not the cook, but the owner!
A cozy family atmosphere, delicious food, good portions, but not heavy in the stomach. Very hospitable, with authentic cooked food. Very good price-performance ratio.
Does not seems to be hygienic and too clumsy
The moment you open the door you will feel like you are in Bangladesh. It’s very small homey place with affordable price.
I do not recommend you to go out especially in the evening. They sell with the opening time to 0h. That's just wrong. We arrived there at 10pm and had to leave there at 11:15. The owner made a lot of pressure, that we are still late at night and should go out quickly. She said: We should never come back. Yes, we will never come back !!!
The food is still delicious. The owner is meanwhile impossible so that we will not go anymore ...
The food was great. Waiting for us to be the only guests way too long for the lunch break and the ambiance, I say times like this, has its own charm. The service was very friendly.
Ok, but very simple, tight. Small portions.
We were the only guests in the shop on an early Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere was a bizarre mixture of German-rustic and cheerful - colorful Indian decoration accessories. The owner was extremely friendly, and we could order from the lunch menu at 14 o'clock. The food was delicious, authentic and had a pleasant spiciness. Prepared it was plain and unadorned, but that's not important. I have a few doubts whether my ordered Cola Light was actually Coca Cola as indicated on the card. Tasted more like a cheap brand and a lot of carbon dioxide was not in it. All in all, I would eat there again anytime because the value for money was very convincing.
Those expecting a somersault of courtesy from the service will be disappointed - it does not matter to us. Have rarely eaten so delicious Indian. Very authentic for a small price.
Delicious food and friendly staff in a small cozy atmosphere
Mine was not. As you can see everything was not so clean. We just opened the covers and everything was so smeared. The meat was grilled, the chicken undrinkable, tasted like warmed up and had a funny color inside. The rice should be basmati but only smelled of butter or fat and also tasted greasy. The shrimp my husband had were very oily and anything but spicy as stated. The mangolassi was no yoghurt milk as indicated but heavily sugared me with some mango flavor. I also honestly said that it does not taste, one apologized but completely. In a nutshell: I vomited at home. For us not again there are far better Indian restaurants in Mainz.
Nice
Very delicious. Ambiance is well maintained, but getting old .. Conditions were pleasant. How to come back to explore the menu further.
Very delicious and cheap! It was really worth it. I ordered lamb with curry sauce, was very finely chopped.
I hope I can keep going ~~~
Unfortunately, the Bengal in Mainz has its best times already behind. The equipment is worn and also the food was a few months ago much better!
The food was not fresh, the cola came without soda, which only means the bottle is old andhas been refrigerated for a long time
The food was very tasty. You felt like you were in India. Unfortunately, the Beef Vindaloo contained too much salt and the spiciness could have been more. But the meat was tender and of the best quality. The lentil soup was hot and sour and therefore ideal for hot summer days - perfect! Anyone looking for real Indian food in Mainz should come here!
The Germans may not like the food here, but for us Asians it is really great and original. Good condition and kind people.
Food was delicious. Owner of the shop was a kind person
Good lamb biryani and it is halaal
The food is very rich, with typical flavors and generally spicy. The place is small and can be a little scary from the outside as it looks very quiet. Highly recommended to try it once and decide if you want to repeat.
Small place. Just nice. Good food. Did not like the tandoori but like the nan and the curry rice. Lassi too sweet not enough yoguhrt. Good service. Need to try a second time to confirm it.
The food tasted like it was from a jar curry sauce
THE best Indian food in the region, superb service and cozy unique envirnoment
